BUYING GUIDES & TOOLS

Heat pump buying guides for Ontario homeowners.

Use these guides to move from rebate research to a better installation decision. The tools are anonymous and the technical pages explain what should be verified before you sign.

Start with the question you are trying to answer.

A rebate is only one part of a heat-pump decision. Installed cost, backup heat, electrical capacity, controls, warranty and the completeness of the contractor quote can change the result just as much as the incentive.

These guides keep those decisions separate so you can use the page that matches your situation instead of reading the same rebate summary repeatedly.

Hybrid vs. gasCompare delivered-heat cost with your own utility prices and equipment COP. Cold-climate performanceCapacity, COP, defrost, backup heat and winter installation details. 100 amp electrical serviceWhat needs to be checked before anyone says a service upgrade is required. Choose the pathway that matches how your home is heated now.

Ontario program rules and system-design questions differ for natural gas, electricity, oil and propane. The fuel-specific guides below focus on those differences rather than swapping a fuel name into the same page.

Natural gasHybrid choices + HRS gas rateFor qualifying Enbridge-heated homes. ElectricHRS + possible EAP routeFor electric furnaces and baseboard-heated homes. OilRetail rebate or assistance routeHRS and income-qualified EAP are different pathways. PropaneHigher HRS rate + backup optionsCompare hybrid and all-electric designs.

Before you make a commitment.

Use the program finder to identify the likely program route, then compare quotes and confirm any required approval before installation. If your project uses Better Homes Ottawa financing, complete the City program steps before starting work.
