NOVEMBER 1 FEDERAL UPDATE

National Heat Pump Rebate: November 1 Eligibility Update

Canada has published additional National Heat Pump Rebate rules. Eligible installations from November 1, 2026 may qualify retroactively; applications are expected in early 2027. Approval, not installation alone, determines funding.

Ontario income limits are now available

For the higher rebate of up to $10,000, Ontario after-tax household income must be at or below these limits:

  • 1-person household: $46,981
  • 2-person household: $92,884
  • 3-person household: $119,850
  • 4-person household: $146,217
  • 5-or-more-person household: $158,202

How the income calculation works

The federal calculation uses 2025 tax-return line 23600 minus line 43500, including a spouse or common-law partner’s equivalent calculation. Above-threshold households may qualify for $2,000. Equipment cost also affects the amount.

Check the official rules and other provinces’ limits.

Check the installation, not just the rebate amount

The published criteria require purchase from and installation by an HVAC contractor, equipment on the federal eligible-product list identified by its AHRI number and sized for the whole home, and no previous federal heat-pump funding at the address. Support is limited to one rebate per household, including owners of multiple properties.

Ask the installer to put these items beside the rebate estimate in your quote:

  • The complete equipment combination and AHRI reference, rather than a brand name alone.
  • The proposed installation date and the basis for the system’s sizing.
  • Each incentive listed separately, with any conditions still awaiting confirmation.
  • The total you would need to pay if an anticipated rebate is delayed or declined.

Keep the unresolved details visible

This makes competing quotes easier to compare and keeps an estimated incentive separate from an approved payment.

The government specifies receipt submission within six months but does not identify the starting event. Program criteria remain subject to change.

Keep the quote, equipment records, invoice and installation documentation together. If your purchase spans several dates, seek clarification rather than assuming which date applies. Ask about any other program’s approval steps before committing; do not treat one program’s timetable as permission under another.

Our National Heat Pump Rebate guide brings the program details together. For this update, the useful next step is a documented eligibility check, not a rushed purchase based on the largest advertised rebate.
